The Gospel Music Workshop of America was organized in March of 1967 by Rev. James Cleveland. After the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses, the GMWA is the oldest and largest  gospel music convention including 185 chapters and over 75,000 members. After the passing of Rev. Cleveland in 1991, Bishop Albert Jamison became Chairman of the Board. Many of the leading gospel artists and gospel songs can trace their roots

back to the GMWA.

Our Mission

To continue academically preparing Gospel artists for the future;

To raise the level of excellence in the worship experience;

The Louisville Area Chapter is committed to the mission of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc. We see the sun rising on our local efforts to revive, renew and regenerate the local chapter. We are excited about the preservation and performance of gospel music and other genres of the African American Music Heritage Tradition.
